UPPER KALIGANDAKI RIVER 3 DAYS
Named after Goddess Kali (one of the most powerful creation of Lord Shiva)- the river Kaligandaki is most probably the best and the shortest river trip in the central west region. Rising from Mustang, very close to Autonomous Region of the Peoples Republic of China –Tibet border the Kaligandaki stretches between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna and is the deepest Gorge in the world. This unspoilt river offers unique views of the Annapurna Himalayan Ranges, elusive wildlife, charming villages, thick and fast white water and deserted beach camp.
ITINERARY We drive down from Kathmandu to Pokhara and should spend overnight at Pokhara Hotel. The day before the departure date we meet the group at our Pokhara office to answer your queries with a hot cup of tea/coffee. You will be told where to meet for breakfast and other details about the trip.
Day 1:
At around 8 a.m. we drive to the put-in-point at Nayapul. Throughout the drive we have wonderful views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks as well as the scared Machhapuchare. Upon arrival we unload the gear and set up the rafts and after lunch you will have an extensive lecture of safety briefing and demonstrate you the paddling technique by the team leader. We meet the first class IV rapid in the first twenty minutes of being on the water. When our guides give you a confidence how they command in adventure with attitude. Safety Kayakars always lead theway as being a safety expert. The first rapids we run are Little Brother, Big Brother, Cave and Dam. After crossing the Modi confluence we setup the camp. We unload the gear and prepare dinner while you can play volleyball or experience an adventure with music or enjoy the scenery. (Rating 2-3 hours depends on volume and gradient of the river).
Day 2:
after breakfast ones the rafts are loaded we raft down to the river for a day with many class III and IV rapids. Like Evil Refund, Black Rock, Landslide as well the view of the Annapurna I and the Himchuli. The river is flowing by hanging from the cliff and gorges. Our camp site is just below the village of Purti Ghat (rating approx 5-6 hours depend upon the volume and gradient of the river).
Day 3:
This section of the river also offers plenty of good white water with class IV rapids. As we explore on the river we reach the small village of Set Beni, we will have couple of hour starting till we end the trip after lunch at Mirmi. Our private bus will take us back to Pokhara by early evening.
